A sports and wellness center built for its users
During construction, the adjacent ice rink remained in normal use, leading to frequent traffic near the site. This was accounted for right from the outset, and special safety and operational requirements were implemented to ensure the safety of the ice rink’s users and the continuity of its activities.
Structurally, the project was exceptionally demanding due to the remarkably long span of the load-bearing frame – 36 meters. The interior height of the space is 9 meters. The long span means that there are no support columns within this distance. The challenge was solved with fire-protected steel trusses installed on load-bearing concrete pillars.
Another structural specialty of this project is the jump pit, which was constructed below the permanent groundwater level. The waterproof floor recess is two meters deep.
Work in Myllypuro began in March 2022, and the facilities were handed over to the client in March 2023. The start of construction was slightly delayed due to stormwater management work carried out on the site before the construction of the building.
However, strong collaboration with partners, Tekova’s efficient internal processes, and an energetic approach ensured that the handover took place within the client’s desired schedule.
